Today is my 7th day of blogging and its time to take stock. Frankly I have been enjoying the experience. I like making judgments, indulging in some critical thinking and sharing my perspectives. To keep the fun going I am clear that I will not hanker after a big readership. If I am true to myself and am open-minded about the topics that I write about then I am sure this blog will facilitate some new conversations.
I have done six posts so far, one each day. I have been sitting down after dinner to pull them together. Most of these have been triggered by some event earlier in the day. The flip side of choosing the day’s topic for the post in a spontaneous fashion is that you get an eclectic mix of subjects. This has certainly been the case here. I thought I will do a quick analysis of the posts so far to see what emerges from it. Here is what I put together for myself…
- Nimble capital in small doses. Miguel Helft asserts that the VC business model changing. I argue that there is change taking place but it’s not business model change.
- Nick Carr labels it as the era of frugal computing. Here I argue that it will be new forms of consumption, not production, which will provide the defining characteristics for the new era.
- The war of innovation ideologies. In this post I claim that the real action will be in this new battleground where established companies and startups are fighting over next generation products.
- Limits of the MNC hub-and-spoke model. Here I make a case for a new MNC organizational model for India.
- Are things looking up for product innovation in India? This time I agree with Anand Parthasarthy that some positive change is in the air.
- Encouraging student entrepreneurship in India. This post reflects my interest in promoting entrepreneurship.
All this indicates that the blog will be about entrepreneurship, innovation, industry discontinuities, market disruptions and organizational change. I think that pretty well sums it up though I foresee diving deeper into various parts of the software industry as we move forward. I hope overtime the blog will acquire more character and that this will come from my passion for these topics.
But passion without engagement is empty. So I hope that you will challenge, critique and complement what I write with your comments. I look forward to new conversations.
